Let’s create your own, unique Instagram feed.
Here are 12 Instagram feed ideas for musicians to inspire you.
Tip: You can use Preview App to plan, preview & schedule your posts. You’re going to love it!
Feed idea #1. Square
First, keep it simple. Post photos and videos, one after the other, like @zeckmusic.
Feed idea #2. Tiles
One of my favorite Instagram grid layout: The Tiles.
It is simple to create, and it makes your feed look put together instantly.
The trick:
- Choose 2 things you want to post about (example: photos and videos)
- Alternate between the two: Post one photo, then one video, then one photo, then one video. And so on.
It will create a “Tile” effect on your feed, like @kiarnna:
Feed idea #3. Line in the middle
Want your Instagram feed to look extra?
Think of your feed as having 3 columns. Each column will have its own type of post.
For example:
- Middle column: Text posts (like quotes, show or tour dates)
- Left column: Videos of your performances
- Right column: Photos
Here’s a feed I created with Preview App to give you an idea:
Feed idea #4. Rows
Think of your feed as having rows.
Dedicate each row to a specific theme.
For example, you can do different rows for different event, topic, songs, or color theme.
Feed idea #5. Theme
An Instagram theme is when you create a cohesive look for your feed.
So what theme can you create?
You can create a theme based on the vibe of your music (soft = soft filter, minimalist photos), new song or new album coming soon.
For example, @taylorswift created a pastel theme in the lead-up to the release of her new song “ME!”.
Plus, a theme can transport your fans into your world. How does your song look like in your head? People will be able to experience it – visually.
Tip: There are different ways you can create a theme. One of the easiest ways is to use the same filter on all your photos and videos (or cover images). There are hundreds of filters in Preview App – plus you can schedule your posts at the same time.
Feed idea #6. Puzzle
Want to wow your audience?
Then a puzzle feed is for you.
Create a puzzle feed anytime you want.
Or save it for big announcements, launches, events or behind the scenes.
Imagine creating a poster or moodboard, that takes up your whole feed.
Tip: You can split a big image into individual posts with Preview App.
Feed idea #7. Rainbow
Another favorite: The Rainbow feed.
Do you have colorful photos or videos? It can be different outfit colors, or light colors on stage.
Arrange the photos in such way that they follow the colors of the rainbow. It will look amazing as people scroll up and down your feed.
Here’s a feed I created with Preview App:
Feed idea #8. Borders
Add borders around your photos, like @harrystyles.
It makes the feed look like a movie or polaroids.
Feed idea #9. Partition screen
Make all the covers of your posts the same – with partitions.
Like @maddie_flute does.
It will make your posts recognizable in the Explore and Hashtag Pages.
Plus, fellow musicians can choose to “Remix” your post and play with you.
Feed idea #10. In the zone
Don’t want to complicate it?
No worries. Keep it simple. Simple is perfect too.
Post the exact same types of posts, in the exact same place, with the exact same background.
Let people binge your content.
Here’s an example: @joshelkedrums.
Feed idea #11. Events only
Do you have a lot of photos or videos of your live gigs?
Feel free to only post that content.
People can share your performances, and new people can discover you too.
@isegunjohnson is great at posting only Live performances:
Feed idea #12. Mix
And lastly: Feel free to mix any of the above feed ideas.
For example, @beyonce sometimes mixes Rows with Puzzles, like this:
That’s it!
